Manually remove the shortcut virus from USB

Hi guys. Sometimes its very irritating when you insert any USB and it shows many shortcuts of My Documents and all the important data and files become invisible. This is due to a shortcut virus. It is usually present in many computers of office, college or cyber cafes. Many of my friends are facing the problems with this virus. So here is a simple trick by which you can remove this virus from your pen drive.
  • Open command prompt. go to start > run > type cmd.
  • Insert your USB flash drive. Assuming it is drive I:
  • In the command prompt window type the following code and hit enter

attrib -h -r -s /s /d I:\*.*

here replace I: with your drives name.
  • That's it. Now you can see the magic that all your invisible files are back now.
You have successfully removed the shortcut virus from your pen drive.

you either using a restricted account or the system file attributes are changed by that shortcut virus on your PC. Follow these steps:
navigate to the path "C:\Windows\System32" from command prompt and then try the above command to remove virus.

i already tried this attrib -h -r -s /s /d I:\*.*, it takes effect but when i remove my flash drive and insert it again, it all comes back, all the shortcut virus. what kind of virus is this? and do you have any anti-virus specific only for this? i'd be glad if you could point me and to others in the right direction. thanks!!

thanks mate.

the virus on your flash drive returns maybe because your own pc or laptop has the virus. so when you do this tutorial, it will just come back again and again. I suggest you to format your pc and have a strong anti-virus software or scan your whole system

you will be on dos prompt
type the command
attrib -a -r -s -h *.* /s /d

use usb exterminator program and follow the suggested command described above. It helped me a lot. Or, download kingsoft 2012 free antivirus, USB antivirus and usb exterminator. they all work hand in hand. install them all plus the attrib -h -s -a -r /s /d g:\*.* command it will solve your problem. the best is to use avast anti-virus!
